740th Week: Everything and Everyone is Connected

Growing up with a multidimensional perspective on reality, I have always believed that I live in a world of inescapable connection and interdependence as part of one dynamic whole.  One of the aspects of this point of view is a recognition that all of us affect the world around us in every moment, automatically radiating the qualities we carry and express as we engage our daily lives.  And, because we are all part of one energy reality, we are automatically and inevitably affected and impacted by the radiating qualities of everyone and everything around us, as well.

Here’s a link to a short video by Bruce Lipton, in which he talks about the underlying energy reality within which we live:

Because of the reality of our underlying oneness, one of my ongoing practices, and one form of the “subtle activism” I engage regularly, is to mindfully radiate into my world qualities of kindness and compassion—when I’m able to do so.  If I find myself getting irritated, frustrated, angry, or frightened by what I see going on in the world, I do my best to orient to my heart awareness and perception, do some breathing to settle myself, and do my best to shift the qualities roiling around through and out of me.  Sometimes I succeed easily.  At other times, it’s a definite struggle, and I have to do some kind of grounding practice to settle whatever has gotten triggered in me—or to do the personal healing work it invites me to notice needs attention.

For this week’s practice in conscious living, I invite you to be even more aware of what you broadcast into your environment.  You may already track the qualities you radiate as you move through life.  If so, notice what happens if you ask yourself to be even more aware of the tone and nature of the energies expressed in your thoughts, emotions, and physical state.  Then, notice which approaches work best to help you shift from qualities that you don’t feel good about to those that are grounded, settled, steady, or whatever other ways of being you would prefer to broadcast into your world.

This doesn’t mean that there won’t be times when you just can’t shift states, and it’s important to move through these times with compassion for yourself, with kindness toward your inevitable wholeness as a human being, to the fact that we all carry wounds that need healing.  There are things that happen that are truly upsetting, world conditions that elicit feelings of helplessness or outrage, unhealed responses that need attention.  This practice isn’t to attempt to override any of these.  Rather, it’s to raise awareness of the ways in which you go through your regular, everyday life, and what qualities of being you radiate into your world on an ongoing basis.

As with all these practices, there’s no right way to do this one.  Rather, it’s yet one more opportunity to be even more aware of how your choices, moment to moment, have a powerful impact on your internal quality of life.  It helps to bring along curiosity as your constant companion and to develop the habit of patting gently on the head any and all judgments that may arise as you explore these practices.
